Wakeboarding on Lake Geneva

High tow, a crisp wake, and a transom you eventually clear. More physical than wakesurfing, and more spectacular.

How it differs from cable

Behind a boat the pull comes from above — off a carbon tower two and a half metres up — rather than from a horizontal cable. That angle lifts you instead of dragging you forward, which makes the waterstart markedly easier and landings far softer.

The second difference is the wake itself. A cable produces nothing; a ballasted boat throws a clean, consistent kicker on both sides that gives something back. That is what turns a wake crossing into an actual jump.

The first waterstart

This is the only real step in wakeboarding, and it is almost always cleared within the first session. The rule is counter-intuitive: do not pull on the rope. Keep your arms straight and your knees folded, and let the boat do the work. People who pull go head first, every time.

Once you are up the rest comes quickly: edging, first wake crossings, then jumps from one side of the wake to the other.

Who it really suits

Wakeboarding asks more of your arms and more commitment than wakesurfing. If you have snowboarded, skated or surfed, you are well ahead. If you have done none of those, start on the wakesurf board in the same session — both are on board and we swap whenever you like.

The other disciplines

Wakesurf

The most accessible discipline on the lake, and by far the most addictive. Rope released, carried by the wave, at 18 km/h and three metres off the transom.

Wakefoil

A wing underwater, thirty centimetres of air under the board, and complete silence. The strangest discipline on the lake — and the least fussy about chop.

The lake is flat tonight.

Late-afternoon slots go first, especially from May to August. Booking takes two minutes and confirmation is immediate.
